Chamber Music is perhaps less generally understood and appreciated than it used to be and has gained an unfair reputation for something that is perhaps highbrow, elite or “not for us”. I am sure our season of concerts will show that this is not the case and that the term merely represents the scale. Chamber music concerts allow us the opportunity to enjoy wonderful tunes in smaller more intimate settings.
The musicians are not distanced as they would be in a large concert hall and so we can become engaged with them in their performance in a more intimate way. Whether it is a string quartet, trio or fewer performers we can see their interaction which informs and shapes the performance. Also, we are not remote from them and they can feed off our reactions so that the performance can feel like a collaboration between musicians and audience.
